Finding A Specific Schools

1. Type the school name in the box next to "School Name".
2. Hit "Find Schools"
3. A popup box will appear. Select the school from the list that was returned. If the school of interest wasn't in the list, you may refine your search in that popup box.

School Choice

Colorado state law allows you to choose any public (neighborhood or charter) school for your child, even if it is not in your neighborhood or school district. Your child can then attend that school for free, unless it is full.

In many cases, you must submit an enrollment application to schools in order to be included in their lottery. Rules and deadlines are different from district to district. You can find more information on this website about how to apply to be included in school lotteries, or you can contact schools and district offices directly.

One important thing to note is that while districts usually provide transportation to the schools closest to where you live. If you choose a different school or a charter school, you will likely need to provide your own transportation.

Using This Site

This site can be made as simple or as complex as you want, depending on your interests in comparing and finding the right school for your child/children. To begin, type in your address and nearby schools will appear. Or, if you are already interested in a certain school, type in the specific school name.

Remember, depending on the information you check or input, the number of schools may be small or large. If the list of schools is too large, limit and lower your information. For example, instead of searching for schools within a 5-mile radius, change it to 1-3 miles.

Schools will be listed in four different ways-- alphabetically, by growth, by distance from your address, and by performance.

Once you feel satisfied with your search, please consider visiting the school itself. School contact information is provided and most schools offer scheduled tours or tours by appointment, depending on your availability. Spend time with the principal and in the classrooms. That is the best way to get a feel for the school, the teachers, students and parents. Although it is more important than buying a car, you wouldn't necessarily buy a car without seeing it and test driving it. Most schools are eager to meet you and to show off their school.
